Questions about this design

What does the Introverts unite! design show?
A red raised fist inside a red circle with the bold words Introverts unite. The look borrows the visual language of a protest poster – solidarity, mass movement, everyone together – and applies it to the one group that would rather not gather in a crowd. It is a quiet manifesto for people who recharge alone.
What is the joke behind Introverts unite?
The paradox. A call to unite usually means marching together, but introverts are the people who find crowds draining. The classic punchline is Introverts unite – separately, in your own homes. The shirt lets you join the movement without attending a single meeting, which is exactly how most introverts would like their activism.
Where does the slogan Workers of the world, unite come from?
From the last line of The Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, published in February 1848. The German original reads Proletarier aller Länder, vereinigt euch, translated in the authorised 1888 English edition as Working Men of All Countries, Unite. The shorter Workers of the world, unite became the popular form, and countless slogans of the form X unite echo it.
What does the raised fist symbol mean?
The raised fist stands for solidarity, unity and resistance – many individual fingers closed into one fist. It became widespread in workers' movements in the early twentieth century and was later taken up by many civil rights, anti-fascist and liberation movements around the world. On this design it is gently repurposed – solidarity for people who would rather stay home.
What is an introvert?
An introvert is someone whose attention and energy turn mainly inward – toward thoughts, feelings and inner life – and who tends to recharge in solitude rather than in company. The term was made famous by Carl Gustav Jung in Psychological Types (1921), and modern personality psychology still treats introversion and extraversion as one of the most robust dimensions of personality. It describes a preference, not a flaw.
Is introversion the same as shyness?
No. Shyness is fear or anxiety about social judgement; introversion is a preference for quieter, less stimulating settings. A shy person may long for company but feel nervous; an introvert may be perfectly confident and still prefer a small dinner to a big party. Many introverts are not shy at all, and some extraverts are.
What is an ambivert?
An ambivert is someone who falls in the middle of the introversion–extraversion scale and shows traits of both, depending on the situation – sociable at a party, glad of quiet the next day. Because introversion and extraversion are a continuum rather than two boxes, most people are in fact somewhere in between.
Who said all of humanity's problems come from not being able to sit quietly in a room alone?
Blaise Pascal, the seventeenth-century French mathematician and philosopher, in his Pensées (published posthumously in 1670). He wrote that all the unhappiness of men comes from one thing – not knowing how to stay quietly in a room. Pascal's point was that we chase distraction to avoid facing ourselves; introverts like to think they got there first.
Is Introverts unite! a good gift for an introvert?
Yes – it is a gift that says I understand you without requiring a party. It suits introverted friends, book lovers, students who hide in the library and anyone who cancels plans with relief. The design is available as a classic unisex T-shirt, a women's T-shirt, a sweatshirt, a premium hoodie, a mug and a sticker.
