Nietzsche on self-irony

Nietzsche-ecce-homo-meme

The meme shows the chapter overview of Nietzsche's book "Ecce homo". This is Latin and means "behold, a man" and is attributed to Pontius Pilate, who is supposed to have said this after the crucifixion and "ordinary" death of Jesus. Whether megalomania or irony (or both) applies is also less relevant to the joke than comedy by exaggeration. "How I learned philosophy through memes" is the necessary addition for the late Nietzschean hubris, which, as said, is definitely to be enjoyed with humor. It certainly seems possible to learn philosophy through memes, if not canonically, methodically, or in the lecture hall.

But we remember: Nietzsche, of all people, was himself an anti-systematicist, an aphorist, a poet, and in any case a philosopher of powerful language. As that we can also find in the memes and even if they are for many only a gateway to actually read a book (or in turn to understand more memes), then I find the memes have perhaps contributed more to general education than what a critic might accuse them of.
