Death of Seneca - Framed Canvas
Description
The emperor says: die. The philosopher says: fine.
Nero had ordered his former tutor Seneca to take his own life. So Seneca opened his veins, stepped into a bath, and died on his own terms, surrounded by friends swearing revenge. He turned his execution into a final act of Stoic dignity.
Painted in oil on canvas in 1871 by Spanish Academic painter Manuel Domínguez Sánchez. Prize-winner at the National Exhibition of Fine Arts that year. Now held in the Museo del Prado, Madrid.
Stoicism in action. On your wall.
